Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, the practice in medication administration on all
campuses is changing. In past years, FISD nursing staff have administered medication supplied
by a student’s parent/guardian with parent/guardian consent and have not required physician,
podiatrist, or dentist authorization. The Texas Board of Nursing has given guidance to school
nurses regarding this practice, and ALL medications including over-the-counter medications will
no longer be given by licensed nursing staff WITHOUT a physician, podiatrist, or dentist
authorization AND parent authorization.
If your student needs ANY medication including over-the-counter medications, nursing staff will
require a physician, podiatrist, or dentist authorization in order to administer the medication in
accordance with the Texas Board of Nursing licensing standards. This includes common items,
such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.
FISD was provided with the updated interpretation of the Nurse Practice Act on Friday, Aug. 2
and has since communicated with doctors and pediatricians in the area regarding the update to
our medication policy.
As always, the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. Should you have any
questions, please reach out to your campus nurse.

Senior cap and gown portraits will be August 8th from 8:30 - 3 in the foyer in front of the theater at the high school. Please use the link provided to sign up for a time slot. No money is due at this time and students need to wear something comfortable. Caps and gowns will be provided.

If you miss your time slot, you can still go anytime between 8:30-3 that day and they will fit you in.

If you cannot make this session, retakes will be taken in December. Date for retakes will be released at a future time.

The annual Honor Roll, presented by Educational Results Partnership (ERP), is part of the national Campaign for Business and Education Excellence. The Campaign engages business leaders in recognizing successful schools and educational systems that are preparing students with the fundamental skills needed to be successful in the workforce and in life. This is the 9th year that ERP has presented the Honor Roll--the only school recognition program presented in partnership with state and local business leaders, using solely objective student achievement data as the criteria for recognition. The goal of the Honor Roll is to find and highlight successful schools and districts and encourage collaboration among educators on best practices for raising student achievement.
